Wales Tourist Board Approved 2 Star Bunkhouse Centre

The Black Mountains in the Brecon Beacons National Park are well established as one of the most popular riding areas in Wales. The varied and rugged scenery; open commons and sheltered forest bridle paths are familiar to riders from all over Great Britain and Europe. Like much of central Wales, they are ideal riding country. Old drovers tracks and paths lead along the steep-sided valleys, whilst commons and flat-topped ridges provide for those who enjoy the occasional canter or gallop.

Young horse lovers will love the horses at Cadarn Trail Riding Centre. A converted Farmstead with bunkhouse accommodation and first class facilities with well equipped games room for evening activities, etc. Cadarn Trail Riding Farm is ideal for School and Youth Groups. It has accomodation for up to 45 guests. Free places are offered to group organisers. The accommodation is adjacent to fields for games, camp fires and scavenger hunts and the ponies graze overnight around the Centre.

Horse riders

riding in the Black Mountains

One Week: Saturday to Saturday
This is our traditional course which gives the option of a three day trail and two nights staying out at overnight camps. This unusual experience combines riding through a variety of mountain terrain with the excitement of camping, caring for a pony and living together in a group. It is suitable for both novice and experienced riding groups. All camping equipment is provided and our staff are responsible for cooking and moving the heavier essential equipment. There is usually one free afternoon.

Mid week: Monday to Friday
Arrive on Mondays. The programme provides for an introduction to the horse with basic skills, grooming, feeding and saddling, with three full days on trail, based at the bunkhouse with the possibility of one overnight camp, if required. Groups leave on Friday.

Weekend or Long Weekend: Friday to Sunday/Monday
Either two or three days at Cadarn with a full programme of instruction and activity. An action packed experience for novices and riders alike.

Unaccompanied Children

Each year during August we run special one week adventure holidays for unaccompanied youngsters in the age range of 11 to 17 years. The Trail Riding programme is very popular.

1 or 2 nights are spent camping out on the mountain trail. Participants are involved in grooming, feeding and tacking-up each day and generally tending to the welfare of their mounts. Evening activities and entertainment is organised under supervision of our Centre Staff.
